Veteran World Championships – latest

The FIE has issued the following statement:

Some COVID-19-related entry restrictions remain still in force in the United States. Indeed, entry is currently suspended for travellers arriving from around 36 countries, or who have visited one of these countries during the 14 days prior to entering the United States.

It is highly unlikely that these restrictions will be lifted in the coming weeks, and even if derogations were requested, there is no guarantee that they would be granted, which would prevent the delegations in question from participationg in the Veteran World Championships.

Discussions have been held with the organising federation and the Veterans’ Council in recent months, and various conversations and consultations have taken place with the Medical and Legal Commissions.

The Executive Committee has therefore made the following decisions:

– The Veteran World Championships will not take place in October;

– At its meeting on 17 September, the Executive Committee will determine, having analysed the information, documents and possible options, whether this edition of the Veteran World Championships can be postponed to January 2022 (in the USA or in another possible country) or whether it should be cancelled.

We are aware that this is a difficult and frustrating situation and that our veteran athletes have been looking forward to this event, and we are doing everything in our power in spite of circumstances beyond our control.
